National Call: Let’s Prioritize the Right Start for Every Child
One quarter of children under age five worldwide are stunted, which means that due to inadequate nutrition their cognitive and physical capacity has been irreversibly damaged. Investing in young children through Early Childhood Development programs by ensuring they have the right stimulation, nurturing and nutrition, is one of the smartest investments a country can make to address inequality, break the cycle of poverty, and improve outcomes later in life. As children in Canada get ready to go back to school, it’s time we shed light on the obstacles to healthy development that children face globally. Canada can support Early Childhood Development by addressing low levels of school readiness, stunted growth and lack of quality care in our international development programming directed towards health and education.
