As an active member of her community, Sherry is an undeniably dynamic citizen advocate! Sherry is proof that using your voice truly can make a difference. Here’s her story:
“Most of my career was spent working for the Canadian government among the policymakers. As an advocate for RESULTS Canada in my retirement, I am now on the other side of the table. I find the new perspective broader and the goals we are working to achieve more gratifying.
In 2018, I developed a plan to engage with our local Members of Parliament, and over the summer and fall we managed to connect with most of them. I was surprised to find that many had firsthand international experience so were more than willing to support us where they could. Many also provided tactical advice on how to ensure that our “asks” were projected to the point that political leaders could no longer ignore them.
In July, I was fortunate to attend the RESULTS International Conference in Washington D.C., and met with senior officials at the Canadian Embassy, the Global Financing Facility and the World Bank. Everyone we visited assured us that our voices are most definitely heard and encouraged us to keep up the good work. I think we all walked a little taller at the end of that day!
Overall, my advocacy experiences last year reassured me that the work we do has a huge reach. So know that as you tweet, post on Facebook, call or write your politicians, or get your message out through an op-Ed or letter to the editor, you are amplifying the messages from all RESULTS volunteers. We do make a difference.”
Thank you Sherry for all your hard work and dedication!
