World Toilet Day

Nov 27, 2018 in Activist Publications

Nov. 19 was declared World Toilet Day by the UN. This will mean very little to most Canadians, who take decent toilets, sanitation and drinking water for granted. Around the world, however, over 2.3 billion people do not have these decent services. Bad sanitation leads to a multitude of diseases, discriminates against girls and young women, and reduces economic potential. But it can be tackled with determined action. Unfortunately, only a small proportion of Canada’s aid budget is spent on clean water and decent sanitation. For World Toilet Day, I ask everyone to work towards increasing Canada’s commitment.
