"We're Talking Results" - How donations are leveraged

RESULTS Canada works to create the political will to end poverty and needless suffering

So what has this citizens’ group achieved over the past 24 months, with its $300,000 annual budget?

  • Canada’s global leadership on the “Catalytic Initiative to Save a Million Lives” – inexpensive interventions to save children’s lives and strengthen health systems in Africa. Canada launched the initiative in November 2007 with a $105 million investment.
  • $127 million from Canada for the launch of “TB Reach” – a new global initiative announced in March 2009 that will help to ensure more of the world’s poorest have access to TB treatment.
  • RESULTS worked with partners to increase Canada’s 2008 contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria to $450 million over three years. Since its inception in 2001, the Global Fund has saved 3.5 million lives!
  • 106 million people have now been reached with micro-loans – small loans to help the world’s poorest women start small businesses. This surpasses a bold goal set 10 years ago by the Microcredit Summit Campaign, an initiative supported by RESULTS affiliates around the world.
  • The passage of the Better Aid Bill (C-293) - landmark legislation that ensures Canada’s foreign aid must be directed towards poverty reduction. RESULTS worked with partners across Canada for close to three years to see this bill passed in 2008.

NET RESULT: each $1 donated to RESULTS helped to generate over $1000 for programs that better the lives of the world’s poor.

“The work that RESULTS chapters around the world have done to champion the cause of microcredit for the poor will go down in history books as one of the major contributing factors to the elimination of poverty.”
Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Prize Winner and Microcredit Pioneer
