Tuberculosis and the Global Fund

Campaign Goals

Since 2004, RESULTS Canada has been a partner in the Advocacy to Control TB Internationally project (ACTION).  With international partners, including Results groups in the U.S., U.K. and Japan, the ACTION project aims to achieve sustained and even greater funding increases for TB and ensure the effective flow of resources toward the Global Plan 2015 targets and universal access.

At the global level, through strategic advocacy activities, the ACTION project intends to:

  1. Mobilize at least $750 million in new resources through advocacy efforts in 5 donor countries (Canada, France, Japan, the UK and the US)
  2. Increase funding for national TB and TB-HIV efforts from internal and external sources by 50% in India and Kenya
  3. Increase TB as a priority for Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria – a pool of funds from international donor which at the moment is largely allocated towards HIV/AIDS - and achieve at least $150 million in new World Bank funding for TB

RESULTS Canada has two specific goals to reach the ACTION objectives: (1) increase Canada’s investments in the global fight against TB and (2) increase awareness about TB among parliamentarians, decision-makers and the general public.

This Fall, the Global Fund will be hosting a replenishment conference to support its operations for the coming three years. In preparation for the conference, donors like Canada are being asked to renew and increase their financial commitments. Demand from the world's poor is increasing and Canada's financial contribution should also increase to meet the need. Now is the time raise for Canada to make an increased and robust investment to the Global Fund.
