  • 75 million children and 774 million adults do not have access to basic education
  • 60% of all children out of school are girls
  • A child born to a literate mother is 50% more likely to survive pass the age of 5 years
  • A single year of primary school increases the wages people earn later in life by 5-15% for boys and even more for girls
  • An additional 18 million more teachers are needed if every child is to get a quality education
  • School user fees have been dropped in many countries, allowing some of the world’s poorest children to access school – the result is that 40 million more children have been able to access school in the last 8 years
